There are lots of different ways to observe Earth Day, which is coming up in just 11 sleeps. But arguably the most fun method would be to attend the City of Surrey’s eighth annual Party for the Planet, the largest event of its kind in the province.
Happening a week prior to the official date at Surrey Civic Plaza, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 14, Party for the Planet is free and family-friendly, celebrating the environment through music, performances, and special green-themed activities. This year’s headliner is none other than Canadian singer-songwriter and five-time JUNO award winner Sam Roberts, treating audiences to an acoustic set in the afternoon.
“We are excited to host Canadian music icon Sam Roberts as our first ever matinee headliner at Party for the Planet,” said Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner.
“This year we have scheduled our headline act so it is more accessible to families and attendees as they visit the various environmental and educational exhibits throughout the day. We invite everyone to come out and learn about the City of Surrey’s many ongoing sustainability initiatives while experiencing exceptional Canadian entertainment in celebration of Earth Day.”
Additional acts taking to the stage include Vancouver-based children’s musical duo Bobs & Lolo, local rising pop and R&B group Star Captains, DJ and production group The Freshest and more.
Besides live entertainment, participants can peruse the tree and plant sale and urban farmers market, partake in a rock-climbing wall and zip-line, hop on a bike and blend up a smoothie using pedal power, or learn how to make some eco-crafts. Food trucks will also be on hand to address any worked-up appetites.
