Summer 2018 events calendar

Lets start the countdown — only eight days until it’s officially summer! While you’re eagerly waiting, browse through Westmar’s guide to the hottest events coming up this season.

CPTA property tax seminar — June 13

The Canadian Property Tax Association (CPTA) was founded in 1967, and is a national organization fostering the exchange of ideas and information relating to property tax issues arising across Canada. CPTA is holding a six hour seminar in downtown Vancouver discussing the constantly evolving retail landscape and its effect on the real estate market; investment decision-making and transitioning assets; as well as changes in taxation brought on by the current NDP government and what that means for housing prices.

Catering is provided in the $125 fee. Check out the website to view the complete agenda and to register.

Squamish Street Market — June 17

Brand new for 2018, a monthly street market will be taking place this summer on Sundays in downtown Squamish (Cleveland Avenue) and is being kicked off on Father’s Day June 17. Visitors can expect over 60 vendors and food trucks, a craft beer garden, kid zone, music, live entertainment and contests. There is no cost for admission.

Volunteers are wanted for a minimum of three hour shifts in the positions of greeter, customer service, traffic control, vendor assistants and general helpers.

TD Uptown Live Street Party — July 21

The heart of New Westminster turns into one giant free celebration for the TD Uptown Live Street Party on July 21. Top B.C. musical talent, including headliners Hey Ocean!, is set to take over four main stages and play from noon until dusk. When hunger strikes, patrons can drop in on one of the over dozen food trucks, or the beer garden for those on a liquid diet.

The site also features interactive art exhibits coordinated by the Arts Council of New Westminster.

Vancouver International Coffee and Tea Awards Festival — Aug. 19

Whether your natural instinct is to reach for an Americano or a cup of Earl Grey, hot, the inaugural Vancouver International Coffee and Tea Awards Festival has it all. Happening on Aug. 19 at David Lam Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., come sample some of the best beverages available on the market right now and help vote for the people’s choice award.

Pet-a-Palooza — Aug 26

North America’s largest west coast outdoor pet festival descends upon Yaletown on Aug. 26. The travelling show — which makes additional stops in Victoria, Calgary and is expanding to the United States this year — is the place to hook up your furry companion with sample treats, toys and all kinds of other free swag. Fun events are scheduled like French and English bulldog races, wiener dog races and more.
