Celebrate cultural diversity, enjoy some tasty food and partake in live entertainment at the same time during the Richmond World Festival coming up on Labour Day weekend in Minoru Park.For its fifth year, organizers are bringing in two big Canadian headliners to play in front of the well attended event that drew 55,000 people last year: Raggae-pop band Bedouin Soundclash on Friday, and JUNO-Award-winning indie rockers The Strumbellas on Saturday.
The two groups will be joined by international artists including Veronica Fusaro (Switzerland), Quinta Kalavera (Mexico) and RT Nuba (Egypt). In addition, there will be 100 other acts across eight stages featuring dancing, juggling, Chinese opera, puppet theatre, professional yo-yo demonstrations and much more.
Visitors are bound to get hungry checking out all the various performances. Worry not, as the festival is also home to the FEASTival of Flavours where over 60 food trucks are set to serve up tasty fare such as Belgian waffles, Sicilian Cannoli, Japanese-style hot dogs and pad thai. Families are encouraged to bring the little ones for all-ages fun. Beat the heat in the Antarctica Zone with complementary skating, drop by the Global Village for Origami folding and Métis finger weaving, and check out a 3-D printer up close at Kids World.Admission is free — the festivities start up at 4 p.m. on Aug. 30 running until 10 p.m., and again at 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. the following day.
