For some, real estate busy-ness drops off in January, making day-to-day productivity increasingly challenging. Coupled with the winter doldrums resulting from shorter days, grey skies and too much rain, you might find yourself struggling to take action. If you’re serious about achieving your 2020 goals and want to get moving, here are a few ways you can combat procrastination while increasing your productivity.
Create a List Organized by Priority
Sometimes the fastest to ease the angst associated with procrastination is by simply acknowledging what needs doing. Rather than letting to-do’s, should-do’s, and could-do’s swirl incessantly through your mind, considering jotting down everything you need to do including personal and business items. Then, with an asterisk mark the three tasks considered to be your highest priority – tackle these, get busy, while ignoring everything else.
Find the Best Environment for Each Task
There’s an optimal setting for everything you need to do. You might work best in your office, at home, in the morning, or late at night. To maximize the likelihood you’ll complete each necessary task, find (or create) the most optimal environment.
Work with an Accountability Partner
You’ve heard of the buddy system, right? An accountability partner is somewhat similar. The best accountability partner might be someone who is also working towards achieving personal and business goals. Consider setting a regular meeting (weekly or monthly) to review what each of you needs to accomplish before the next meeting. Here, you’ll share whether you completed what you intended to complete, in addition to offering and providing feedback to one another.
Reward Yourself
To get busy, you might just need to dangle a carrot – so to speak. If you’re looking to work through a task list over a few hours, or throughout the day, you might motivate yourself, by only have a coffee break once a certain task is complete. For larger, more complex tasks, consider motivating yourself with a nice dinner, or a shopping trip, only if you complete the task at hand.
Set Your Intentions…with Clarity
Waking up each day with no outlined planned is just like the old saying goes…failing to plan, is planning to fail. To optimize your productivity, it’s best to write down what you plan to accomplish each day, each week, etc. Consider including timelines for each task, then get busy.
