Concord’s NYE Vancouver — Dec. 31

Pick one of two options to ring in the New Year in downtown Vancouver with over 100,000 people. The first is an open-to-all outdoor party at Jack Poole Plaza, from 7 p.m. to 12:15 a.m., featuring a live DJ, street performers, food trucks, a family fireworks show at 9 p.m. and countdown fireworks at midnight. Or, buy tickets to an exclusive indoor shindig at Vancouver Convention Centre West where guests can enjoy live music, art installations, a front-row view of the fireworks barge and more.

Gluten Free Expo — Jan. 12 to 13

Visit Vancouver’s largest gluten free event happening inside Canada Place. Sample hundreds of products such as pizza, beer, breads, perogies, buy what you like and head over to the conference stage to listen to registered dieticians, nutritionists, doctors and chefs share their knowledge on the topic. Online tickets start at $12 for a day pass, $20 for weekend and $39 for VIP that includes a gift bag, special entrance and lounge access.

Vancouver Motorcycle Show — Jan 18 to 20

Get your motorcycle, scooter, ATV and side-by-side fix ready ahead of the warmer season at the Vancouver Motorcycle Show. Check out the newest models displayed under the Tradex roof in Abbotsford, along with fresh gear and apparel, as well as youth lessons and stunt demonstrations. All ages and experience levels are welcome, and feel free to chat up experts and fellow riders milling about. Admission is $11 for juniors, $12 for seniors and $13 for adults (early bird until Jan. 11).

2019 Vancouver Small Business Information Expo — Feb. 6

Whether you’re a prospective small business owner or already established, the Vancouver Small Business Information Expo is the spot to be. The free event takes place at Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre and gives participants an opportunity to meet and greet representatives from over 50 support programs. There will also be presentations, a panel on how to contract to the government, and an information session shedding light on various forms of financing. Register here.

Abstracted: Exhibition of Canadian Artwork — March 5 to 16

View a full range of abstract art, communicating through the visual language of colour, point, space, shape, line and form, at this walk-in exhibit hosted by the Federation of Canadian Artists Gallery on Granville Island. Some of the highlights in the collection are works taking inspiration from the light abstractions contained in Impressionism all the way to large-scale examples of Expressionists. The gallery is located at 1241 Cartwright St. and open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday.
